Sustainability & Community Hub
Sustainability
At Barton Primary School, we are proud to be part of the ResourceSmart Schools program, an award-winning Victorian Government initiative that assists schools in embedding sustainability across all aspects of school life. This program supports us in minimizing waste, saving energy and water, promoting biodiversity, and taking action on climate change, benefiting both our school and the wider community.
Through our participation in ResourceSmart Schools, we have access to sustainability experts who guide us in reducing resource usage, integrating sustainability into our curriculum, and sharing our learnings beyond the school gate. This collaboration has led to measurable environmental, financial, educational, and social outcomes, aligning with our commitment to fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.
By working together as a school community, we are taking meaningful steps toward a greener future. We invite students, families, and staff to join us in making Barton Primary a leader in sustainability.

Community Hub
At the heart of the Barton Primary School Community Hub are four key pillars that support families and strengthen our school community.
Early Childhood
We offer free playgroups and connect families with local early years services to support the growth and development of preschool children. These programs build social skills, support school readiness, and foster a lifelong love of learning.
Engagement
Our hub supports families to actively connect with the school and the wider community. Through programs such as the Women’s Connection Circle and other group activities, families build meaningful relationships and strong support networks.
English
We provide opportunities for migrants and refugees to learn and practise English in both formal and informal settings. Free childminding is available, allowing parents to fully engage in their learning.
Vocational Pathways
The hub provides access to vocational education, training, and volunteer opportunities. These pathways help adults build skills, grow confidence, and move towards employment.
Families can participate in a wide range of activities, including playgroups, “Coffee and Chat” sessions, English classes, and skill-building programs. These opportunities strengthen confidence, build connections, and support positive outcomes for children and families.
At Barton Primary School, we believe strong partnerships between families, the school, and the wider community are essential. Our Community Hub plays a vital role in fostering these connections and supporting every child to reach their full potential.
